Shot List

My Shot List

A shot list is basically a recording of all the things that will take place during a scene within a video. It could also be a particular shot for a scene, but the point of them is to help the director make sure that all the details necessary to be included will actually make it onto the screen. In other words, it could be considered as a checklist for filming.

Shot lists can give the rest of the crew an idea of the types of things that will be filmed, helping others to prepare for the set. Although they are usually used for bigger productions and more complex settings, it helps to condense and organize thoughts so when actual production begins, the director will have an easier job to construct a scene rather than having to improvise which could be time-consuming and inefficient.

Whenever an I appears in one of the boxes, it means that the content of that box is insignificant to what it represents. This could be because its hard to tell what angle a scene will include, and some of the shots might be too dark to tell what shot it was. Therefore, there’s no point including them in the shot even though there is still an effect on the audience on the screen.

I also decided to delete the shot and scene numbers as the video’s inconsistency in movements made it difficult correctly depict the actions taking place. Many of these shots and collisions of scenes were hard to follow, and therefore the previously mentioned stats were irrelevant to the case of filming, especially because some of the shots were improvised after the previous copy of the Shot list was completed etc. In other words, my shot numbers are unidentifiable in regard to which scenes they belong to.

As a conclusion to creating a Shot list, I've learned that it helps me to organize filming and that I could use one similarly to call sheets as previously mentioned. In the section for the actions taking place, I could accurately plan what I had to accomplish which also aided me in avoiding the wastage of time from having to do re-shoots and forgetting to bring props to the scenes necessary.
